Nowadays the research on Overseas sinology is becoming increasingly important in the academic circles at home and abroad.Traditional Chinese literature can not only be introduced to the globe, but also serve as an enlightenment of the spirit of innovation with regard to Chinese academic. In view of this, this paper selects the ninth chapter of Science and the Dao published by the notable American sinologist Livia Kohn in 2016 as the translation material to analyze and with an aim to provide some reference for the translation of Overseas sinology. The source text probes into the profound insights of the traditional Chinese Taoist culture from the perspective of modern science.Given that the source text reconstructs Zhuangzi’s elaboration on Taoism with regard to its article and sentence structure, the theory of recontextualization is applicable to it.Therefore, the author analyzes and discusses the recontextualization of the source text from three aspects:vocabulary, scenario and context. In the process of translation, the author integrates translation with context from the four dimensions of words, structure, logic and culture to specify the principle and the methods of translation by reconstructing the new ‘scenario’ using selecting-words,reorganizing sentences, sorting discourse logic and bridging the gap,in which a certain methodological significance is outlined.Through the discussion of the above issues, this paper hopes to enrich the translation of Overseas sinology, serve as an enlightenment and also promote the development of the research on Overseas sinology.
