| There is a big connection between culture and language.On the one hand,language is the carrier of culture,on the other hand,culture is the basis of language.So in the process of English teaching,it’s necessary to blend language and culture as one.Reading and culture are two essential parts in high school English teaching.As for students,apart from vocabulary and grammar,cultural background also influences their reading ability.Nowadays,with the development of globalization,exchanges between countries has become even more close.In the New English Curriculum,it has a specific rule for cultivating students’ cultural awareness and asks to have a correct understanding of English culture,meanwhile,view Chinese and foreign values rationally.Therefore,English learners ought to have a wide knowledge of daily activities,mode of thinking in English speaking countries.This way,learners will be able to communicate their mode of thinking.This research mainly discusses the following three questions: First,what is the current situation of the cultivation of students’ cross-cultural awareness in the teaching of English reading in senior high schools in our country? Second,what are the factors that affect the cross-cultural awareness of high school students? Third,how to improve students’ cross-cultural awareness in the process of high school English reading teaching?The research methods of this study include questionnaire surveys,interviews and tests.Firstly,about 220 senior high school students in Yuncheng Experimental High School in Shanxi Province were surveyed through questionnaires,and 20 English teachers of the school were learned through interviews,which mainly aimed at the current situation of cultural teaching in high school English courses.In the teaching process,the current situation of students’ cultural awareness is analyzed,and corresponding cross-cultural communication strategies are proposed.Based on schema theory,this article studies the strategies and methods which can be carried out for cultural teaching in the process of reading teaching,and then strengthens the cultivation of high school students’ cultural awareness,and promotes the effective improvement of English reading ability.This research consists of six parts.The first part briefly introduces the research background,purpose and thesis framework.The second part is literature review,which mainly describes the current situation of cultural teaching at home and abroad and the relationship between language and culture.The third part includes the theoretical basis and its classification.The fourth part is the process of research and design.The fifth part is the research results and data analysis.The sixth part describes the deficiencies of the thesis and suggestions for English reading teaching. |
