| This thesis is a report based on the interpreting practice of an interview on feminism selected by the interpreter. The interview involves Emma Watson’s and Gloria Steinem’s views on learning, life experience, and gender equality. The interpreter is required to master consecutive interpreting skills and understand feminist terminology. In the process of interpreting, the interpreter inevitably encounters some problems due to the difficulties in vocabulary, fragmented sentences, and logical mess in the source language, resulting in misinterpreting of certain interpreted text.In order to find out the corresponding strategies, the interpreter applies relevance theory and relevance translation theory to analyze the meaning and importance of ostensive inferential and communicative principles in the process of interpreting.According to relevance translation theory, interpreting is a cross-language and cross-cultural communication activity. The interpreter not only needs to convey the source language and literal information, but also needs to understand the speaker’s intention.Next, under the guidance of relevance theory, the paraphrase strategy based on the principle of cognitive relevance is used to mobilize the vocabulary knowledge and solve lexical barriers in the cognitive context.By using communicative principles and context, the interpreter can explicate logical information, speculate on speakers’ communicative intention, and solve logical mess. The interpreter puts forward the optimal relevance and uses the addition strategy to solve the problem of fragmented sentences.Based on the above theories and strategies, this paper analyzes the causes from the perspective of relevance theory, and puts forward appropriate interpreting strategies, which can provide reference for future misinterpreting researchers. |
