| Vocabulary is an important part of language and has a vital role in mastering a language.However,the teaching method in primary school often cannot help students master vocabulary effectively.As a result,some students have bad scores on vocabulary and gradually lose interest in vocabulary learning.Under this circumstance,more and more teachers realize the importance of effective vocabulary teaching method.Mind mapping,as a powerful graphic technique,plays a unique role in helping students understand the vocabulary and leading them to have interest in mastering vocabulary.Therefore,the researcher attempts to apply mind mapping to English vocabulary teaching to improve students’ vocabulary learning proficiency.On the basis of the previous studies,this thesis concentrates on two research questions.(1)What are the changes of students’ attitude toward English vocabulary learning after the application of mind mapping?(2)What are the effects of mind mapping on improving students’ English vocabulary proficiency?The research was conducted fourteen weeks in a Chinese and English primary school in Shenyang.The subjects of this research were 43 students in Class Nine,Grade Six.The instruments were questionnaires,interviews and tests.Two rounds of action research were performed during this research.In this research,the analysis of the results of two interviews were qualitative analysis.The analysis of the results of two questionnaires were quantitative analysis.The students’ scores were analyzed by SPSS 21.0,which was the quantitative analysis.The results confirmed that the application of mind mapping in English vocabulary teaching had some positive effects.To begin with,it had a positive effect on changing students’ attitude toward English vocabulary learning.It increased students’ learning interest.In addition,students began to use vocabulary strategies consciously.Second,it contributed to improving students’ vocabulary proficiency in the aspects of memorization,usage and application. |
