| The establishment of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area(CAFTA)and the implementation of “the Belt and Road Initiative” have greatly promoted the economic cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries,realizing economic prosperity and development.However,the cooperation between two countries or regions is not restricted to economic field,and cultural exchanges weight.A very common way to learn about the cultural life of a country or region is reading works.Therefore,the author chose a book named Everyday Life in Southeast Asia as the original text for this translation practice.The book is co-written by two scholars that study the Southeast Asian anthropology and sociology.It contains the experience of many scholars’ research on Southeast Asian countries.To be more specific,it introduces the ethnic cultural life in Southeast Asia from the aspects of language characteristics,identity recognition,family structure,countries and nationalities,religious beliefs,culture and art,and war history.The original text,selected from the first and second chapters of the book,mainly introduces the language characteristics and the national self-recognition of Indonesia.Coherence is an essential attribute of a text,and it has to be conveyed or reproduced in the target language.In other words,translation is also a process of identifying coherence of the source text and reconstructing it in the target text.In view of this,Wang Dongfeng’s theory of translation coherence is chosen as the guidance of this translation report.The source text falls into the informative type designed to convey the information.In this report,through case analysis,the author explains how to identify the coherence of the original text and reconstruct it in the target text to enhance the readability from the aspects of grammar,semantics and pragmatics,and concludes with corresponding translation strategies and skills for texts of such type. |
