| In addition to objective factors such as learning environment,teaching equipment and teachers? English proficiency,emotional factor is one of the factors that have an impact on foreign language learning.Anxiety,as one of the three emotional variables affecting foreign language learning,is closely related to English learning.In recent years,English classroom anxiety has been concerned by many researchers.At present,some relevant studies have confirmed that there is a negative correlation between English classroom anxiety and students? English achievements.This shows that English classroom anxiety has a negative impact on English learning.Senior high school education is a key period for students? mental health development and learning.In order to promote students? mental health development and enhance the efficiency of English learning,it is still necessary to discuss how to reduce students? anxiety in English class.Therefore,based on Humanistic Psychology theory and Affective Filter Hypothesis,this study conducts questionnaires among 308 students from two high schools in Hezhou city and interviews 16 of them.The purposes of the study are to investigate the current situation of senior high school students? English classroom anxiety,to explore the difference of students? English classroom anxiety between different types of public senior high schools,and to analyze the factors that cause senior high school students? anxiety in English classroom,hoping to put forward some suggestions to reduce English classroom anxiety.The three research questions in the present study include:(1)What is the current situation of English classroom anxiety of senior high school students in Hezhou?(2)What is the difference of students?English classroom anxiety between different types of public senior high schools? Is there gender difference?(3)What are the factors that cause senior high school students?anxiety in English classroom?The results show that:(1)most senior high school students have a medium level of English classroom anxiety on the whole.And the level of communication apprehension is the highest.(2)There is no difference between the model high school and the ordinary high school in students? English classroom anxiety.(3)There exists significant difference in the component of communication apprehension,test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation in gender,while in terms of other anxiety,there is no difference between female students and males,and the anxiety level of female students is significantly higher than male students.(4)Through the data analysis of the questionnaires and interviews,it can be concluded that there are various factors that cause students? anxious in English class,which involve weak English proficiency,fear of communication,fear of failing in test,fear of negative evaluation,lack of confidence,inadequate preparation,teacher?s speaking speed,teachers? teaching method and teachers? state.According to the findings of the research,some practical suggestions are put forward for teachers and students to effectively reduce students? English classroom anxiety,to promote students? mental health development and improve the efficiency of English classroom teaching.From the perspective of teachers,they should create a relaxed classroom atmosphere,give students more positive evaluations,optimize the way of error correction,and enhance students? self-confidence.From the perspective of students,they should make greater efforts on basic knowledge and change their attitude towards failure. |
