With the development of global economic integration and the urgent need for secretarial talents with professional English ability for secretaries,it has promoted higher vocational colleges to attach great importance to the cultivation of professional English ability for secretaries.However,there are still some disadvantages in the Secretarial English teaching in higher vocational colleges,such as the backward teaching idea,the constraints of the old teaching model,vague teaching objectives,single teaching method,etc.Therefore,the promotion of the reform of secretarial professional English teaching is an important measure for the higher vocational colleges to adapt to the internationalization.Action-oriented teaching has gradually entered various curriculum teaching in higher vocational colleges,and the use of action-oriented teaching mode for reform and practice is an effective method to explore and cultivate students’ professional English ability.This research takes a series of practical problems faced by higher vocational secretarial English teaching as the starting point for the research,explores the theoretical system of using action-oriented idea to guide higher vocational secretarial English teaching,and carries out an action-oriented teaching experiment,which has certain reference value in practical application.Aiming at the current problems of the ambiguity of higher vocational English teaching and the copying of the undergraduate teaching mode,the action-oriented Secretarial Professional English teaching mode is proposed to make higher vocational English teaching highlight the characteristics of vocational education.First,pay attention to the participation,practicality and interaction of the main body of teaching activities;second,organically combine the two aspects of teacher’s Teaching and student’s Learning to change the current indoctrination style and the situation of teachers’ One-word Teaching;Finally,improve students’ interest in learning English to meet the learning needs of students under the background of diverse student sources,change the learning motivation based on scores,and enhance the effectiveness,practicality and professionalism of Secretarial English teaching.Focusing on the teaching goal of cultivating secretarial professional English ability,flexibly using a variety of teaching methods,the Six-step Method is designed for action-oriented teaching.First,the action-oriented teaching of Secretarial English is systematically explored and practiced from the teaching content,the teaching situation,teaching process and evaluation,etc.;second,an action-oriented teaching experiment of Secretarial English is carried out.Action-oriented teaching was introduced in the experimental class,while the current English teaching mode was used in the controlled class.The empirical results show that action-oriented teaching mode can significantly improve students’ comprehensive English ability and cross-cultural communication skills.Action-oriented teaching is more effective in developing the professional English ability for higher-vocational secretarial students.
