As one of the important means of language input,reading has always played an important role in English teaching.In the junior high school English tests,reading comprehension questions account for a larger proportion of points.English reading not only examines the mastery of students’ basic knowledge of language,but also reflects whether students’ thinking is logical.Lexical chunks’ theory combines the characteristics of structural method and communicative method which puts scattered words into an orderly whole.It can help students effectively memorize vocabulary and grammar.At present,the theory of lexical chunks in the foreign countries and in China has been relatively mature,and there are endless researches on the application of the theory in English teaching.However,most studies mainly focus on the influence of the theory in writing teaching and vocabulary teaching,and its impact on reading teaching.There are few studies and the main researches focus on the high school students.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the influence of lexical chunks’ teaching method in junior high school English reading teaching.In this study,through a 3-month teaching experiment,the method of lexical chunks is applied to reading teaching to test whether it can improve students’ reading ability.It also tests whether the lexical theory has different degrees of influence on the English reading ability of students in different grades,and draws some enlightenment from applying the vocabulary theory to junior high school English reading teaching.This research mainly studies the following three issues:1.What is the current status of English reading among junior high school students?2.Can lexical chunk theory be applied to junior high school English reading teaching to improve students’ English reading ability,and if so,will it have the same effect on students’ reading comprehension ability in different grades?3.How to effectively apply lexical chunk theory in junior high school English reading teaching?The survey results show that the use of lexical chunks in the teaching of English reading is effective.On the one hand,lexical teaching can increase students’ knowledge of lexical chunks and improve their learning awareness of lexical chunks.And the application of lexical block theory in reading can enhance students’ self-confidence and increase their reading interest.On the other hand,the students have improved their English reading ability after they have knowledge of chunks.Based on the research results,it is hoped that the current situation of junior high school English reading can be improved,and the related research on lexical chunks’ theory and junior high school English reading teaching can be enriched.And through practical attempts in the English classroom reading teaching of junior high school,the researcher hopes that it can change the teaching methods and methods of junior high school English teachers to a certain extent,and uses the theory to help junior high school students overcome the difficulties encountered in English reading.
