High school is one of the most important stages for the development of students’ learning,so every part in high school learning is crucial.As one of the most important forms of students’ independent learning after class,English homework is really important in the improvement of students’ comprehensive ability,which should be paid enough attention.In order to achieve the development goals and training goals of the new curriculum standard of senior high school English,senior high school English teachers should assign the kind of English homework that best meets the needs of students according to their level and characteristics,combined with their interests and the acceptance ability.However,in the actual teaching process,there are still some problems about English homework.This paper is based on the New Curriculum Standard,focusing on high school English homework,aims to investigate the English homework arrangements in two senior middle schools in Chongqing,combined with the training objectives of the New Curriculum Standard,systematic analysis of the problems that may exist in high school English homework,and explore the underlying cause of the problems.This paper adopts the investigation method,mainly through the questionnaire survey and interview survey of English teachers and students in two high schools in Chongqing.In order to have a more comprehensive and objective understanding of the actualities of English homework in high schools.Questionnaire survey takes high school students and teachers as the objects of investigation,including questionnaires for students and teachers.Considering the urgency of time in high school and the fact that mobile phones cannot be used during school,online survey and offline survey are combined,and the questionnaire survey is anonymous.The interview survey method also takes high school students and teachers as the objects of investigation,and designs the interview draft for students and teachers.Then collect the online interview information and the offline interview information together for analysis.The survey results were analyzed from two dimensions:From the perspective of teachers,including the importance of high school English homework,their consideration of students’ interest,their grasp of the quantity and difficulty of homework,and their purpose of assigning homework.From the perspective of students,including the importance of English homework,their feelings about the quantity and difficulty of homework,the influence of English homework on students’ interest in English learning,and their suggestions and demands.Through the analysis of the survey results,it is found that there are several problems in English homework in high school,including the view of homework,the quantity and difficulty of homework,the cultivation of thinking,the interest in learning,the type of homework and so on.After that,integrated the information of the questionnaires and interviews.This paper analyzes the teachers and students understanding of the importance of high school English homework,the quantity and difficulty and the influence of high school English homework on students’ learning interest,the purpose of teachers’ assignment and students’ demand for homework.Finally,combined with the training objectives of the New English Curriculum Standards,according to the problems existing in the actual teaching process,gave several optimization design principles,such as stimulating students’ interest in learning,enriching homework types,grasping the quantity and difficulty of homework,and the hierarchical design of homework and the corresponding high school English homework optimization design strategy,combined with a certain homework design cases to make the strategy more specific.
