The source text is chosen from the third section in the fourth chapter of the book,titled Secrets of creativity — what neuroscience,arts and our brain reveal.The book was written by Suzanne Nalbantian and Paul M.Matthews and was published by Oxford Scholarship Online in 2019,which is a powerful digital library developed by Oxford University Press.The source text is an informative text.Guided by functional equivalence theory,the translator uses targeted translation methods to solve the difficulties in the translation process,striving to convey the original information accurately.This translation report consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the background,significance and outline of the translation report.The second chapter introduces the source text.The third chapter introduces functional equivalence theory and its application in the process of translation.The fourth chapter mainly introduces the difficulties in translation,namely compound and complex sentences,terminologies and rhetorical expressions,and their corresponding solutions,namely inversion,interpretive approach to translation as well as context-based translation.The last chapter concludes the lessons the translator gained and problems to be solved in the future.
