With the eruption of the “Cultural Turn”,feminist translation theory, which is a combination of feminism and translation emerged in the circle of translation studies, and women issues have been widely concerned by scholars. This thesis studies concentration on women in the Chinese version of A Room of One’s Own,one of representatives of Virginia Woolf, from the perspective of feminist translation theory. This thesis is constituted by five parts. The first part is the introduction, which is made up of the background, questions and innovations, methodology,as well as structure of the thesis. The second part introduces feminist ideas of Woolf and her A Room of One’s Own.The third part offers the theoretical foundation for this thesis. It helps to introduce the feminist translation theory from the perspective of its overview, main representatives and their viewpoints, strategies as well as its concentration on women. The fourth part is a case study on Chinese version of A Room of One’s Own.The author of the thesis discusses Jia Huifeng’s version in terms of female image, status of women, and literature of women, analyzing three kinds of concentration on women and the translator’s feminism. In the end,the relevant conclusions are drawn.Through analyzing three kinds of concentration on women in the Chinese version of A Room of One’s Own,the author explores strategies applied to realize such concentration, and summarizes the reasons that make the translator cares about women. With detailed text analysis, the author finds that the translator realizes his concentration through applying feminist translation strategies like footnoting, supplementing and hijacking, and hijacking is the most effective one. Both the concentration on women and use of translation strategies are embodiments of translator’s subjectivity. Moreover, the translator has multiple and comprehensive reasons for his concentration: theoretically, feminism is a trend in translation studies with a bright future;practically, the translator aims to regenerate social and cultural thoughts in translation and bring them to target language readers. This thesis hopes that it can offer readers a more comprehensive understanding of feminist translation theory and A Room of One’s Own.We also hope that women issues can be concerned more widely, and women can develop fully and completely.
