Based on the C-E translation of the academic thesis titled “On the Difference between AI Works and Human Works” by Lu Wenchao,this report is aimed at researching on the difficulties encountered in translation practice,and providing the relevant translation strategies under the guidance of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory.According to Peter Newmark,text types fall into three categories,namely,expressive text,informative text and vocative text.Academic thesis belongs to the type of informative text.Peter Newmark also presents two translation methods i.e.,semantic translation and communicative translation.Informative text should be rendered through the method of communicative translation.Therefore,the author intends to make a case study on the translation of this academic thesis from the perspective of communicative translation theory.Chapter one of this report introduces the project and the translation process;Chapter two explains briefly Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory and text typology theory,and analyses the stylistic features of the academic thesis;Chapter three elaborates on the translation strategies through a detailed case study on three points,namely,accurate diction,semantic objectivity and logical connectivity in discourse;Chapter four summarizes the translation strategies discussed above,hoping to provide ideas of referential value for those engaged in the translation of similar texts.
