The gold and bronze Buddha refers to a statue shaped like a Buddha with copper as the tire and gilded on the surface,with back screen as an important part of the Buddha statue.Its shapes,contents,and patterns are also diverse and varied.This article is mainly to sort out and study the back screens of gold and bronze Buddha statues unearthed in the Central Plains during the Sui and Tang Dynasties.The first chapter mainly elaborates the development of gold and bronze Buddha statues in the Central Plains during the Sui and Tang Dynasties,and outlines its style and the inheritance and development of the back screen style of early gold and bronze Buddha statues.The second chapter mainly analyzes the style of the back screen of the gold and bronze Buddha statues in the Central Plains during the Sui and Tang Dynasties.This analysis is based on the in-depth study of 169 Sui and Tang dynasty gold and bronze Buddha statues unearthed in the Central Plains.It gives a detailed introduction to various types of gold and bronze Buddha statues in the Sui and Tang dynasties,and summarizes the basic form and structure of the back screen.The third chapter analyzes the decorative patterns of the back screens of gold and bronze Buddha statues,classifies them and summarizes their characteristics,and compares them with the decorative patterns on the back screens of Japanese gold and bronze Buddha statues in the same period,and discusses its influence.The last chapter summarizes the influence of the back screens of gold and bronze Buddha statues in the Central Plains during the Sui and Tang Dynasties,including its influence on the back screens of later gold and bronze Buddha statues,stone Buddha statues,and temple mural paintings,and its influence on the gold and bronze statues of North Korea and Japan during the same period.This article is only a basic research on the back screens of gold and bronze Buddha statues in the Sui and Tang dynasties,hoping to draw more scholars’ attention to the image of Buddha statues,and also hope that it can be used as a reference for other scholars who study the back screens of Buddha statues.
