| English reading is one of the key skills for English learners.Reading can not only cultivate students’ sense of English language,but also promote the accumulation of vocabulary and improve the skills.Due to the single traditional English reading teaching mode in China and the inactive classroom atmosphere,high school students have little interest in English reading,which leads to the slow improvement of students’ reading ability.In 1996,the New London Group published the article “A Pedagogy of Multiliteracies: Designing Social Futures”,which formally proposed the concept of multiliteracies pedagogy.The pedagogy aims at using a variety of resources to assist students in language learning.In China,there are few researches on the application of multiliteracies pedagogy to English reading teaching in senior high schools.This study applies the multiliteracies pedagogy to high school English reading teaching to explore the impact on high school English reading teaching.In English reading class,the author adopted four steps which are situated practice,over instruction,critical framing and transformed practice to carry out teaching experiment research,and proposed the following research questions:(1)What are the effects of the multiliteracies pedagogy on students’ reading ability in senior high school English reading?(2)What are the effects of the multiliteracies pedagogy on students’ attitude towards English reading in senior high school? This study took two parallel classes of the first grade of Longxi No.1 senior high school as the research subjects,and carried on the teaching for one semester.The instruments of test,questionnaire and interview were adopted in the experiment.The data collected in the thesis was analyzed by SPSS 22.0.The results showed that the reading ability of both the experimental class and the control class has improved.However,the experimental class made greater progress than the control class,which indicated that the application of multiliteracies pedagogy to English reading teaching in senior high school had a positive effect on improving students’ English reading ability.The results of the questionnaire showed that students’ attitude towards reading has changed and their negative attitude has weakened significantly.The application of multiliteracies pedagogy can help students optimize their English reading learning,construct various information resources and spread information through multi-channels.In addition,with regard to the application of multiliteracies pedagogy in high school English reading teaching,the author also puts forward targeted teaching suggestions,aiming at providing some reference value for the formal implementation of the teaching method and the follow-up research. |
