In recent years,with the influence of changes in undergraduates’ work concepts and employment conditions,college students’ postgraduate entrance examination has gradually become a hot topic.The role change from undergraduates to postgraduates is accompanied by changes in vocational cognition and behavior,but the exploration of the development context and psychological motivations of the changes is still in a relatively blank state.Therefore,this research focuses on the core factor that reflects the vocational identity and behavior of postgraduate students.This research uses narrative analysis to study the development context and psychological motivations of the vocational identity of postgraduate students.It selects12 postgraduate students from a few universities in the northwestern region as the research objects,and uses the Vocational Identity Status Assessment and structured Vocational Identity Status Interview,semi-structured Career Construction Interview and open Life Narrative Interview to collect research data,and use NVivo11 qualitative analysis software to code data to assist researchers in analyzing data from three aspects:career context,theme analysis and narrative tone,so as to achieve the research purpose of the analysis of the status,characteristics and influencing factors of the vocational identity of students.The research results are as follows:The vocational identity state of postgraduate students is not a single status,but a compound and alternate development and change in the three stages of life development.The searching state occupies an important position in the early years of postgraduate students,and the dominant role that alternates with the diffusion and achieved states appears in the early and later stages of individual adulthood;the vocational identity achieved and foreclosure state of postgraduate students in adolescence and their early adulthood in the latter stage,the searching companion achieved status has a certain relationship but is not decisive.Postgraduate students embody the characteristics of narrating career in the aspects of narrative background,career change,demands for further education,changes in world outlook,career goals,narrative training and development path.In the career narrative of the education experience of “primary school-junior high school-high school-university” for postgraduate students,the goal of vocational identity has changed from a childhood “scientist” to adolescence “promotion dream”.The growth motivation and existential motivation of postgraduate entrance examination behavior and the pursuit of a safe and stable job position in terms of career goals are the needs of postgraduate students for a sense of belonging and security.In addition,the utility of the vocational psychological test cannot be generalized,it should be used in the situation of the vocational narrative.In terms of the flexibility of vocational reflection and vocational flexibility,it reflects the dynamic development and change of the world view behind the value of vocational identity of postgraduate students.In a world,postgraduate students have the characteristic of fragmentation on the gradual path of professional identity development.The status of vocational identity of postgraduate students and the fragmented characteristics of their gradual development path contain the profound influence of the individual narrative feelings and the life nobles and life encounters that make the transition.
