The Wujiang River, known as "Yanjiang" in ancient times, originated from Weining County,Guizhou Province, and is the largest tributary on the right bank of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. From Heyuan to Sinan County,it is called the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River. The river runs through the western, central and northeastern parts of Guizhou Province. The Wujiang River is an important passage in the southwest of China.Archaeology in Guizhou first began in the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River.Important cultural relics include the Guanyin Cave site in Western Guizhou, the Zhaoguo Cave site, the Niupo Cave site, the Hezhang Cola Cemetery, and the Tomb of Yang Family Chieftain in Bozhou. The research of these archaeological achievements dominates the direction of the development of Guizhou archaeology.According to the characteristics of archaeological activities in the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River,it is the first time that the archaeological activities were classified into three stages: 1938~1952,1953~1979,and 1980~2020.The first stage mainly clarified the protection of cultural relics between 1938 and 1952.Excavation of historical sites and other activities;in the second and third stages, the investigation and excavation of ancient ruins and tombs are classified and summarized by time.On the basis of classification, researches on various stages of archaeological investigation and excavation in the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River, archaeological methods and technology applications, related research results and academic significance are carried out. From the perspective of regional archaeological history,it summarizes and summarizes the academic contributions of archaeological activities in the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River to the development of archaeology in Guizhou.Archaeological achievements in the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River have enriched the archaeological research materials in Guizhou, and have triggered a new round of discussions on the central area and ethnicity of the "Yelang".Archaeology in the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River proved the fact that Guizhou was an important part of Chinese civilization, and provided evidence for understanding the evolution of Guizhou’s Paleolithic to Neolithic transition, the origin and spread of modern people, and other issues. At the same time, archaeology in the upper and middle reaches of the Wujiang River also gave birth to the rise of "Tusi Archaeology",which linearly showed the cultural outlook of Guizhou, the history of development and the pluralistic integration of Chinese civilization.
