As the oil and gas production technologies continuously develop nowadays, people are paying more and more attention to the environmental problems caused by them. Therefore,in the translation task, the translator chooses the Chapter 5 “Fracking”excerpted from Environmental Aspects of Oil and Gas Production and makes specific analysis on the translation of petroleum English texts by applying relevant translation strategies and skills under the guidance of Vermeer’s Skopos theory. This translation report mainly consists of three chapters.Chapter one covers the source and content as well as the purpose and significance of this translation task.Chapter two introduces the description of translation process: analysis of source text, preparations before translation, overview of translation theories and process of translation work.Chapter three presents case analysis from three aspects: lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level. The main contents of case analysis include: translation of terminology, amplification and conversion at lexical level;passive voice and long and complex sentences at syntactic level;cohesion, coherence and logical structure analysis at discourse level. The last part of the report is a conclusion of the entire translation practice. This translation practice proves that the Skopos theory can help the translator to address the translation task of the texts in the field of oil and gas development to ensure the standard and quality of the qualified translation.
