The Dominican Republic is located in Latin America and the Caribbean,and is the fastest-growing country in the region.On May 1,2018,China and Dominican Republic formally established diplomatic relations,and the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of politics,economy,and culture has continued to deepen.In this context,the number of volunteer teachers selected by the Chinese-foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education and sent to Dominica every year is increasing.Volunteers for Chinese language teachers are generally composed of recent college students and graduate students.They are all the first time to go overseas to carry out Chinese teaching work.They have insufficient independent work and life experience.In addition,there are big differences in culture and customs between the two countries soon after the establishment of diplomatic relations.Therefore,volunteers Teachers will face many difficulties in their work and life in Dominica.In recent years,research on volunteer Chinese language teachers has been very rich,but most of them are concentrated in developed countries and surrounding areas.Research on the cross-cultural adaptation of volunteer Chinese language teachers in Dominica can not only fill in the gaps in regionalization and nationalization research in the field,but also Provide a reference blueprint for the development of Chinese language education for countries in the Caribbean that have not yet established diplomatic relations with China.This article takes volunteer Chinese teachers in Dominica as the research object,adopts a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods,and investigates the cross-cultural adaptation of the volunteer Chinese teachers in Dominica through questionnaires and interviews,and analyzes the survey results on this basis.And put forward targeted suggestions.Through the research of this thesis,the author has the following findings: Firstly,affected by language and cultural differences,Dominican Chinese teacher volunteers have more prominent problems in life and communication adaptation;secondly,teaching adaptation is not completely affected by volunteers Teaching experience influences;then,participation in effective social activities will increase volunteers ’ social support,thereby improving their cross-cultural adaptability;finally,the level of psychological depression of volunteer teachers in Dominica is significantly higher than that of their peers in China.Volunteer teachers are experiencing psychological problems.When there is a problem,it is more inclined to use internal adjustment methods to adjust,which has a typical exclusive characteristic.In this regard,the author puts forward corresponding countermeasures from the volunteer teachers themselves,teaching institutions,training units,management units,etc.,such as using online platforms to provide long-term Spanish training courses,establishing psychological counseling departments and appropriately organizing teacher team building,etc.
