This report is based on the simulation English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation practice. The chosen material is a speech about energy and transportation disruption, delivered by professor Tony Seba in Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico(UNAM)in November 23,2018.The interpreter selects the material for simulation interpretation practice, analyzes the process of the interpretation practice, and summarizes the appropriate interpretation methods based on the features of the material and the problems encountered in the practice,in order to achieve better interpretation effect.By analyzing the source language and the target language, the interpreter finds that the selected material is of informal style. With a certain degree of specialty, the material covers professional knowledge of energy and technology disruption, which leads to high information density of the speech.Meanwhile,in this improvisational material there are problems driven from loose sentence patterns, redundant information and inserted components, which poses challenges to the effort distribution of the interpreter.Based on the characteristics of the selected material, the interpreter applies Gile’s Effort Model of simultaneous interpretation to coordinate the interpreting activities, and analyzes the problem encountered in the practice as well as the methods applied during the simulation interpretation practice. In the process of the input of the source language, dominated by listening and analysis as well as the memory effort, the interpreter adopts the methods of chunking, waiting as well as anticipation,to balance the above efforts. In the process of the output of target language, dominated by production effort, the interpreter adopts the methods of reorganization, generalization as well as omission,to reduce the production pressure to the interpreter.Based on the practice of simulation English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation, this practice report explores the effort distribution during interpretation practice, and analyzes how to choose appropriate methods that facilitate the coordination of the efforts. It is hoped that this practice report can provide reference for others who conduct similar interpretation practice.
