| This report is based on the English-Chinese simulated simultaneous interpretation practice of a symposium,which was about the COVID-19 and held in Geneva in 2020.The symposium was hosted by Dr.Bruce Aylward.He is the leader of the China Investigation Team.The author chose this corpus to simulate the consecutive interpreting between English and Chinese.By recording and analyzing the practical process of consecutive interpretation,the author summarizes the appropriate translation methods based on the characteristics of the corpus and the problems encountered in the simulation,in order to achieve a better interpretation effect.By analyzing the source language and the target language,the author finds that the selected corpus is an informal style.With a certain degree of specialty,the corpus covers professional knowledge of disease control and epidemic prevention,which leads to large amounts of information in the speech.At the same time,The content of the speaker’s speech is improvised,so unclear expression and loose sentence patterns occur from time to time.According to the characteristics of the selected corpus,the interpreter used Gile’s Effort Model of consecutive interpretation to coordinate the interpreting activities and analyzed the problem of effort distribution and the applied methods.The interpreters analyzed the different errors that occurred in the two different phases of consecutive interpreting.In Phase I,the errors are information missing and non-equivalence at word level.In Phase II,the errors are no logical relationship between sentences and twisted messages.Based on the practice of consecutive interpretation,the thesis explores translation errors caused by improper allocation of energy in English-Chinese consecutive interpreting,and analyzes the appropriate interpretation methods to confront the effort distribution in the interpreting process.The author hoped the paper can be used as a reference for other interpreters when conducting this kind of interpreting task. |
