| With the development of world multi-polarization,globalization and informatization,public diplomacy,as an important means to enhance national soft power,has attracted more and more attention from the political and academic circles of various countries.After entering the new century,especially after ‘9/11’,all circles of the United States began to have a new understanding of public diplomacy.This translation practice is based on the translation of the first three chapters of New Public Diplomacy--Soft Power in International Relations,which evaluates the importance of new public diplomacy in the current international environment and makes a deep analysis of the current diplomatic trends.Based on Reiss’ s conception of text typology,this paper analyzes the text types,characteristics and translation difficulties.Reiss believes that the text type determines the translation method,and she summarizes different translation methods according to different text types.New Public Diplomacy is an academic monograph with the main function of providing information.The text is characterized by standard language,clear structure,close logic and strong objectivity,so it belongs to informative texts.This requires the author to focus on the content and the academic style of the original text,to reflect the views and opinions of the scholars and then follow the general principle of accuracy,that is,to convey the information of the book as accurately as possible.This paper first gives an overview of text typology,and discusses its translation principles,and the author employs the methods such as part of speech conversion,translation following the original syntactic order and semantic supplement at the lexical,sentence and textual levels to meet the translation requirements of informative texts,so as to reproduce the original information much better and improve the translation quality. |
