The Logic Reproduction In The English-Chinese Translation Of The Texts On International Relations

This report is based on the practice of English-Chinese translation of The Struggle for Recognition in International Relations(Chapters 1 and 4).The source text introduces how established powers face the rise of emerging powers,providing a new answer to this long-standing question in international relations.The source text is a text on international relations with a strong academic focus,a complex sentence structure,mostly long and difficult sentences,and a more obvious logical approach to word choice and chapter layout in the text.This report addresses the issue of logical reproduction in the source text.The problems of logical reproduction encountered in translation can be found at three levels: the word,sentence and text.To address the problems at different levels,the translator makes use of the knowledge of logic and combines it with specific cases to analyze and discuss the corresponding translation strategies and solutions.At the lexical level,the problem of logical concepts is dealt with by determining the connotation of lexical concepts,selecting the conceptual extensions,and analyzing the conceptual relationships;At the sentential level,the translator’s adaptation and selection will be achieved through the multidimensional transformation of Eco-translatology,thus reproducing logic;At the textual level,logical reproduction will be achieved by analyzing the logical relations in the source text and adding or subtracting logical conjunctions.Through this translation practice,the translator has gained a better understanding of the characteristics of texts on international relations,and has made a practical generalization on the logic of reproducing texts on international relations.It is hoped that this practice report will provide some reference for the translation work in related fields.
