Explicitation Of Logic Relations In News Texts From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19,an increasing number of people have noticed that wholesale markets are of great significance to protect people’s food supply chain in time of crisis.Information about the agricultural wholesale markets has also become a vital part of the news,reflecting the changes in society,market and people’s demands.Explicitation of logic relations is one of the hot topics in news texts translation studies,and empirical studies have proved that explicitation is a useful strategy in translation.If applied improperly,it may lead to the obstruction of effective transmission of information and the loss or distortion of information and logic in the source text.Therefore,it is of importance to construct an explicitation approach to guiding translation practice.The source text of this translation report mainly comes from the translation project of WUWM Newsletter,which the author translated during her internship in CAWA.Based on the communicative translation theory,this report,different from the framework of traditional logical translation method,selects the texts in the No.6 issue of the Journal of World Union of Wholesale Markets in 2021 as the research corpus,and aims to combine theoretical analysis with practical translations.By exploring the differences in logical relations between the source and target news texts,such as those in phrases,sentences and sentence groups,the author discusses the strategies and methods of making explicit the implicit logical relations in the translation of news texts.The report concludes that,firstly,logical relations such as causality,concession,etc.,may be implicit in phrases,sentences and sentences groups;secondly,the implicit logical relationship in the original text should be explicated and made explicit by using appropriate translation strategies and techniques.In the process of translation,moderate adjustments should be made according to the different expressions of logical relationship between Chinese and English;finally,translation strategies can be used in translating implicit logic,depending on the specific context,such as conversion between active and passive voice,conversion between theme and rheme,amplification,omission,choice of word meaning,skillful application of punctuation,interpretation,noun-verb conversion,comprehensive analysis,deformation,etc.
