A Practice Report On Patent Specification Abstract Translation

Recommended by Professor Ye Huijun from College of Foreign Languages,Hebei University,I participated in the patent abstract translation project of “itransplus” from July to October,2019.This online patent translation platform is a multi-functional online patent translation website.With the help of the machine translation function of the platform,I need to retranslate the generated translation.Translators can translate the patent text directly on the website.The platform will recycle the text and redistribute it if translators fail to complete it.The translation quality is jointly supervised by the patent translation project teacher and the Intellectual Property Publishing House.From July to September 2020,I participated in the patent abstract translation project of Qianda Zhixin Co.Ltd..This company offers a software to help translators finish tasks.The translation quality shall be supervised by the leader of the patent translation project of the company.This translation practice report is divided into five chapters.In the first and second chapters,the background and translation process of this project are mainly described.In the third chapter,I analyze the text characteristics of patent abstracts,select computer-aided translation tools and preparations of translation theory.In the fourth chapter,I elaborate the difficulties encountered by the translator in the translation of patent abstracts,and the specific case analysis under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.In the fifth chapter,I summarize the translation methods of patent abstract translation,especially how the translator can better complete the translation of patent abstract with the help of translation platform and machine translation,to provide more efficient and convenient methods and skills for future translators engaged in patent translation.
