A Practice Report On English-Chinese Translation Of War In Space-the Science And Technology Behind Our Next Theater Of Conflict(Excerpts)

The report is an English-Chinese translation practice report.The translation project is excerpted from the book War in Space: The Science and Technology Behind our Next Theater of Conflict,which belongs to the popular science text.The first three chapters of the project mainly introduce the “miserable life” of losing satellite,space war and space war environment.The author of the practice report introduces messages which relate to the project and describes the translation process.Furthermore,the author selects communicative translation theory as guidance after determining the text type and analyzing linguistic features of the project.Case analysis is the core part of the practice report.The practice report conducts the detailed analysis on lexical level and syntactic level.The lexical level is composed of abbreviations,terms,choice of words and annotation,and the syntactic level is composed of passive voice sentences,long and complex sentences and parallel structure sentences.To improve the translation readability and convey scientific knowledge precisely,translation methods such as conversion,sentence splitting and merging,word order adjustment are adopted.With the assistance of communicative translation theory,the author compares the differences between Chinese and English in language and ways of thinking and selects suitable translation methods to meet the needs of readers.Therefore,the author finds some issues that should be paid attention to and explores the practicability of communicative translation theory in popular science translation.
