With the deepening of economic globalization,the characteristics of education internationalization are more and more obvious.China’s demand for foreign original textbooks is increasing,and the newly revised Science Curriculum Standard for Compulsory Education puts forward new requirements for primary school science textbooks.China urgently needs to optimize the cultivation structure of talents.How to make our country realize the modernization of education and how to effectively cultivate students’ scientific literacy and scientific inquiry ability have become the problems that textbook writers have to face.Textbook writers need to learn from the experience of textbook construction in advanced educational countries.Therefore,high-quality translation of such textbooks is increasingly indispensable.Based on the translator’s practical experience in translating popular science textbooks SCIENCE(excerpt),this report mainly studies and solves the problems in the process of popular science textbooks E-C translation from the perspective of Skopos theory.The translator chooses the Skopos theory of German translation scholar and linguist Hans Vermeer as the theoretical guidance,combines with translation strategies and methods,discusses typical problems in terms of characteristics of source text during the translation of textbooks,and proposes proper solutions.This report consists of five chapters,including the description of translation task,the description of translation procedure,overview of Skopos theory,case study and the conclusion of translation practice.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the translator discusses translation strategies and methods from three aspects,including lexical,syntactic and discourse levels.At the lexical level,free translation and annotation are used to deal with the translation of terminology and column titles in source text;At the syntactic level,the methods of conversion,division,combination,inversion and addition are adopted to deal with the translation of passive sentences and compound sentences in source text;At the discourse level,strategies are explored to achieve internal coherence and external coherence in target text.It is exemplified in the study that Skopos theory can provide guidance for the E-C translation of popular science textbooks.In the process of translation,the translator determines the translation strategies and methods under the guidance of the three rules of Skopos theory,which can effectively improve the quality of translation,so as to better achieve the purpose of imparting knowledge in popular science textbooks,optimize the learning experience,enhance learning pleasure,and improve learning vigor of target readers.
