A documentary film is a film or television art form that uses real life as the creative material,takes real people and real events as the object of expression,and moderately processes it to show the essence of life.And an excellent character documentary should not only restore the real life,but also use various methods such as narrative and image to shape the character’s image,and expose the human’s common emotional consciousness.China,a major agricultural country for thousands of years,has always been based on irrigating mulberry and water conservancy.Although the peasants are the mainstays,their weak position and stereotypes still exist deeply in the past image performance and public imagination.Therefore,it is particularly necessary to create a three-dimensional,full-fledged,and multi-faceted contemporary "new" peasant character image for the exploration of the documentary and the improvement of the public.Taking the graduation work "Qiu Wang" as an example,this article analyzes the types and shortcomings of peasant image formation in previous documentaries,and explores how to shape Xiao Qiuwang,a "new" peasant image,and reflects on various issues during the shooting and creative process.To show the simple,generous,broad and tenacious spirit unique to a peasant artist,to care for the spiritual home of the underlying characters and to explore the value of life.At the same time,I also hope to sum up a systematic method of character image formation,which will provide some reference and reference for the creation and research of character documentaries in the future.
