The focus of the research in the field of language teaching has been shifted from“how teachers teach” to “how students learn”.More and more attention has been paid to the analysis of learners’ factors.For a long time,learning strategies and language aptitude have always been the focus of research on learners’ individual differences.It has been shown that language aptitude can be dynamically developed and the conscious use of certain learning strategies can promote the formation and development of learners’ language aptitude.In addition,as a very important part of English learning,English reading comprehension is a critical means to test the success of learners’ English learning.In recent years,scholars at home and abroad have confirmed the influence of learning strategies and language aptitude on English learning.What’s more,learning strategies are likely to influence English reading comprehension through the mediating effect of language aptitude,which needs to be supported by further research evidence.Whether learning strategies can influence English reading comprehension through the mediating effect of language aptitude remains to be studied.Therefore,this study aims to address three research questions.(1)Is there a correlation between learning strategies and language aptitude of senior high school students?(2)Is there a correlation between learning strategies and English reading comprehension of senior high school students?(3)Do learning strategies influence English reading comprehension through the mediating effect of language aptitude of senior high school students?The results of this study confirm a high correlation between learning strategies and English reading comprehension,and the partial mediating effect of language aptitude in this process.Also,the results demonstrate the intrinsic relationship between learning strategies and English reading comprehension,which makes this study significant.From the theoretical perspective,this study enriches the studies of the relationships among learning strategies,language aptitude and English reading comprehension,and reveals the mediating effect of language aptitude on the process in which learning strategies affect English reading comprehension,providing valuable ideas for further researches.From the practical point of view,the research results are helpful for educators to understand students’ individual learning differences more comprehensively and seize the precious opportunities of students’ language development,which can help them to make corresponding teaching adjustments for students in different situations.
