The arrival of information Age,with its rapid development of information technology,has brought an irresistable trend of education informalization.Since the Government supports the development of vocational education,the secondary vocational school education has been at its best of times.English is a compulsory course in secondary vocational schools and it plays a more and more important role.In March 2020,the Ministry of Education released the English Curriculum Standards for Secondary Vocational Schools,which stirred up a hot discussion in vocational school English teaching.As a new way of teaching and learning resource,micro-lectures not ony inspired the students,but also the English teachers.The English Curriculum Standards advocate combining the information technology with secondary vocational school English teaching to improve students’ self-learning and enhance their language skills in listening,speaking,reading and writing.In this study,we discuss the design and application of micro-lectures in secondary vocational school English teaching based on Fujian L Secondary Vocational School.Micro-lectures are being used in this school.The following three questions are being discussed:(1)Why is it necessary to apply Micro-lectures in secondary vocational school English teaching?(2)How are English Micro-lectures designed and applied in the secondary vocational schools?(3)Is the application of English Micro-lectures in secondary vocational school English teaching effective?Based on Constructivism Theory,Audiovisual Communication Theory,Mastery Learning Theory and Flipped learning Theory,this thesis begins with a literature review of Micro-lectures at home and abroad,then analyses the features of vocational English and introduces how to design and apply Micro-lectures.Two classes,the experimental class and the controlled class participated in the experiment.The research proves that the application of Micro-lectures has been accepted by most students in the secondary vocational school.It can arouse students’ interest in English,enhance students’ self-learning and co-operative learning abilities,and thus improve the students’ scores in Vocational School English Academic Proficiency Test.Therefore,Micro-lectures have enriched the teaching resources in secondary vocational schools.It is necessary for secondary vocational school teachers to develop professional English micro-lectures and cultivate the students’ vocational awareness,i.e.passion in their jobs,respect for others,punctuality,teamwork,etc.Micro-lectures combining with professional posts are welcomed by secondary vocational school students.Some constructive suggestions are provided for further study of Micro-lectures in this field at the end of the thesis.The author hopes that this research will be helpful to English teaching in secondary vocational schools and to the secondary vocational school English curriculum reform as well.
