On Pearl S.Buck’S Translation Of All Men Are Brothers From The Perspective Of Translation Aesthetics

As treasures of Chinese cultures,Chinese classical novels are not only precious spiritual and cultural property of Chinese people,but also spiritual and cultural property shared by people all over the world.As one of the four classic works of China,All Men Are Brothers enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad.Pearl S.Buck’s translation,as the first complete work of it,has been widely spread abroad and has great influence.Translation aesthetics,as a hot topic studied by domestic and foreign scholars,which is an organic combination of translatology and aesthetics is focused on translation study from the perspective of aesthetics.In the process of translation,the translator,as the messenger of bilingual communication,should not only transform the original text into the target text,but also screen,process and optimize the selected discourse to realize the transmission of the beauty of the original text.And its aesthetic value is worth exploring.Based on the relevant theories of translation aesthetics,this thesis takes All Men Are Brothers as the research object.On the basis of fully understanding and interpreting the two basic concepts of translation aesthetics,translation aesthetic object and translation aesthetic subject,this thesis is an attempt to analyze the dilemmas of translation aesthetic object(form,emotion,culture and time and space)caused by the bilingual differences from the perspective of understanding and probe into the beauty of translation aesthetic subject(translator)from the perspective of expression(presented in the way of reproduction and reconstruction).Because one of the research purposes of this thesis is to discuss the translator’s dilemmas in understanding the original text before realizing the beauty of it presented in the translation and the second purpose of this thesis is to show the beauty of the translation in the name of the beauty of aesthetic subject from the perspective of expression.Through the analysis of specific examples,this thesis draws the following conclusion:In the process of translating All Men Are Brothers,Pearl S.Buck is more or less limited to those dilemmas of understanding the original text caused by translation aesthetic object and tries to adopt the strategy of foreignization as much as possible.Thus,she is unable to fully represent the beauty of the original text.However,Pearl S.Buck does not adopt the strategy of foreignization in the whole translation.Such infidelity translation shows the translator’s subjective initiative.Both reproduction and reconstruction are the output of the translator’s careful consideration and reflect the beauty of translation aesthetic subject(translator)from the perspective of expression.The ultimate goal is to convey the beauty of the original text to the target language readers,so that they can enjoy the same beauty as the source language readers.
