| English writing is an important part of language skills.A good grasp of English writing is beneficial for pupils to improve their ability of the comprehensive use of language.Requirements for English writing of senior grade students in primary schools are put forward in the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education that students are able to correctly use upper and lowercase letters and common punctuation marks in English writing,write simple greetings and words for blessing,write short sentences according to pictures,words or example sentences.It can be seen that English writing is one of the important parts of English learning for senior grade students in primary schools.At present,some problems in English writing of senior grade students still exist in rural primary schools,which call for the attention of English teachers in primary schools.These problems deserve to be studied and analyzed in depth.For the purpose of understanding the current situation and improving the English writing of senior grade students in rural primary schools,the methods of questionnaire,interview and text analysis are used in this study with the aim to investigate the current situation of English writing of senior grade students in four rural primary schools in C City from four dimensions,i.e.the attitude,purpose,basis and content of writing.The study has found that the senior grade students in rural primary schools have made some progress in English writing,for example the students’ English handwriting is legible and neat,and the length of writing can meet the requirements.Although achievements have been made,some problems still exist in English writing of the senior grade students in rural primary schools,such as the lack of positive attitude,clear purpose,a thorough understanding of basic knowledge as well as a full content in English writing.This study analyzes the causes for the problems in English writing of senior grade students in rural primary schools and concludes four major reasons,i.e.less attention to English writing,weak awareness of independent learning,the lack of teachers’ guidance on writing,and scarce learning resources.Based on these problems and causes,this study puts forward some suggestions from the aspects of students and teachers respectively.For students,they should have correct attitude towards English writing and clarify the purpose of English writing under the guidance of teachers.As for teachers,they should strengthen the guidance on the basic knowledge commonly used in English writing,and give students more training on the content of writing.It is hoped that this study can improve the current situation in English writing of rural primary school students,improve their writing skills,provide some experience for them to achieve the writing goal of English Curriculum Standards,and improve their ability of the comprehensive use of language. |
