| With the rapid development of science and artificial intelligence,more and more attention has been paid to scientific texts.The progress and development of science and technology are closely related to social progress and human development.China has always been stressing the importance of national rejuvenation through the development of science and technology.Along with globalization and the explosion of knowledge,most advanced knowledge and information are written in English.Therefore,it is undoubtedly through translation that people acquire the latest scientific and technological achievements.However,it is not easy to translate scientific texts due to their specialization,objectivity,and logic.This practice report selected four chapters,from Chapter 3 to Chapter 6 from the book,An Introduction to Data —— Everything You Need to Know About AI,Big Data and Data Science as translated materials,which profile artificial intelligence,big data,and data science,respectively.Taking Skopos theory as the guiding theory,the translator analyzed the problems encountered in the translation of scientific and technological texts and put forward corresponding translation strategies to deepen the understanding and application of the theory in practice and provide guidance for future translation practice.This practice report consists of five chapters.The first chapter includes the description of the translated report,the introduction of the source text,and the objective of the report.The second chapter describes the process of translation,including selecting appropriate source text,analyzing language features of the source text,reading parallel texts of the original,choosing translation aids,making a translation plan,and proofreading after translation.The third chapter introduces and expounds on the Skopos theory and its three rules: Skopos rule,coherence rule,and fidelity rule.The fourth chapter conducts a case study from three aspects: words,sentences,and discourse.Due to the logic and professionalism of scientific and technological texts,there are a lot of technical terms,non-restrictive attributive clauses,adverbial clauses,and passive sentences in the texts.The translator analyzed these three aspects and finally summarized the translation methods.The fifth chapter summarizes some major findings,limitations,and prospects of translation in the future.It is the author’s hope that the results of the report should bring enlightenment to the translation of such texts. |
