| Sinology work Shifting Stories: History,Gossip,and Lore in Narratives from Tang Dynasty China is a typical academic work,characterized by accurate and standardized,abstract and concise writing.When translating this academic work using the Computer-assisted Translation developed by Transn,the output of the translation presents problems in five aspects: semantics,culture,logic,format and style.And the quality of the translation cannot meet the basic requirements of translation.Semantic errors mainly involve the translation of polysemous words and syntactic structures.Cultural errors mainly involve the translation of names of people,books,place names,and official titles.Logical errors are mainly reflected in the translation of conjunctions and word order.Formatting errors include translation problems with punctuation.In terms of style,the overall style of the text is not coordinated.Translations with these errors must be manually corrected.That is,it must add post-editing process to ensure the basic readability of the translation.Post-editing methods include seven aspects: selecting word meanings based on context,optimizing syntactic structure,expanding term base,rectifying conjunctions,adjusting word order,correcting punctuation,and polishing stylistic style.By using these post-editing methods,the quality of the translation has been improved.Practice has shown that when translating academic works,machine-translated texts cannot guarantee the basic quality of translation,and manual editing must be added in the later stage of translation to ensure the readability and quality of the translation. |
