As one of the important methods of English teaching in primary school,situational teaching method caters to the psychological characteristics of primary school students and meets the requirements of the new English curriculum standard.It is one of the most popular teaching methods in the curriculum reform.It is of great significance to study the application status,causes and solutions of English situational teaching methods in primary schools to improve the teaching quality of English teachers in primary schools.Based on situational teaching method,136 primary school English teachers in S city were selected as the research object,6 were interviewed and 130 were investigated.Through interview and questionnaire survey,this paper analyzes the problems and causes of primary school English teachers in using situational teaching method,and puts forward corresponding improvement countermeasures from the aspects of school,teachers,students,teaching means and situational materials,so as to promote situational teaching method to better serve primary school English teaching.This study is divided into five parts.The first part introduces the research background,research problems,research significance,core concepts,literature review and construction of theoretical basis.The second part is the research design,which mainly introduces the research ideas,research objects,research methods and implementation process.The third part investigates the application of situational English teaching method in primary school by means of interview and questionnaire.The fourth part first expounds the effect of applying the English situational teaching method in primary school.Situational teaching method is not only conducive to the improvement of classroom teaching effect,but also conducive to the promotion of students’ participation in class,as well as the stimulation of students’ interest in learning.Then it points out the main problems in the application of this method,such as the facilities and resources of the school to carry out situational teaching,the ability of teachers to use situational teaching elements to be improved,the teachers’ research on situational teaching theory is not deep enough,the classroom organization in the process of teachers’ teaching is easy to be confused,and the teachers are difficult to meet the individualized needs of some students.On this basis,the causes of the problems are further analyzed,mainly the lack of relevant teaching methods training in schools,the lack of teachers’ in-depth understanding of the connotation of situational teaching,the emphasis of teachers on teaching forms over teaching objectives,the low efficiency of teachers’ classroom management and the lack of internal motivation for some students to learn actively.Finally,based on the above reason analysis,this study puts forward the improvement countermeasures.Schools should pay attention to the training of teachers’ teaching methods,teachers should build a resource bank of English situational materials in primary schools,teachers should pay attention to the improvement of their own teaching ability,modern information technology should be effectively integrated into the classroom and teachers should pay attention to student-centered classroom organization.
