The thesis is a project report on the translation of the excerpt from Prof.William Webb’s Wireless Communications: the Future,a classic work in the wireless communication industry. The book puts forward a clear and thoughtful vision of how the whole wireless communication industry will develop in the next few years. There are so many technical terms and expressions related to wireless communication in the translated materials that it is difficult for the translator to understand and translate. It is of great importance to start the translation practice under the guidance of Skopostheorie,a representative theory of Functional School.Under the guidance of Skopostheorie, this report discussed key points and difficulties in the translation process from three aspects: vocabulary, syntax, and discourse, with relevant examples.Among them, the translation strategies of technical terms and other nouns are mainly discussed at the lexical level. The translation strategies of passive sentences, long and difficult sentences are mainly discussed in the syntactic aspect. In terms of discourse,it mainly discusses how to make the text cohesive and coherent, and how to grasp the principles of coherence and fidelity in translation. This thesis expounds on the guiding significance of Skopostheorie in the translation of wireless communication texts and provides a reference for other translators to translate similar texts.Meanwhile, the translator can deeply understand the characteristics and skills of sci-tech translation to improve her translation ability. It is hoped that the target language readers can deepen their basic understanding of wireless communication, and provide some references for the Chinese translation of scientific texts.
