The source text of the translation report is Chapter four of Wireless Communications: The Future written by Professor William Webb. The book contains a wealth of wireless communication basic theories and a large number of wireless technology practical methods, and characteristically introduces the development direction of wireless communication technology in the next 20 years.Chapter four introduces the current position of wireless communication and the significant technology in 21 st century. It involves a large number of professional terminology expressions related to information and communication technology, which make the translation full of challenges. It typically belongs to scientific and technical texts. Therefore, the combination of translation practice with Newmark’s communicative translation theory is of great significance.Based on Newmark’s communicative translation theory, with source text as an example, the author analyzes the strategies and techniques applicable for the translation of sci-tech texts from lexical, syntactic and discourse level. At the lexical level, practical research has found that communicative translation theory can effectively guide the E-C translation of scientific and technological texts and help to achieve accurate and concise translation. At the syntactic level, guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory, the author deals with different types of long and complicated sentences by adopting conversion, omission, annotation.Meanwhile, the author highlights the key information emphasized by source text so as to reduce the reading obstacles encountered by target readers as well as to ensure the accuracy of translation. At the discourse level, the use of reconstruction and connection methods can prevent target text from becoming obscure so that it conforms to the expression habits of Chinese and achieves the communicative purpose.Through this practice, the author has realized that the emphasis of scientific texts is to convey information. With Newmark’s communicative translation theory as the guidance for the translation of sci-tech texts, the author produces a target text which accords with the expression habits of Chinese. In this way,the quality of target text is greatly improved. And target readers can read the target text as effectively as source language readers read the source text. However, due to the author’s lack of professional background knowledge, some translations are not professional enough. It is expected that this translation practice can provide practical information reference for relevant personnel engaged in wireless communication industry as well as provide certain material reference and method reference for translators engaged in the translation of sci-tech texts.
