| Nowadays,critical thinking has been one of the hot topics in the field of research on English teaching.It’s also an important educational goal to cultivate talents for the future.Reading is an important part of English learning,not only to increase students’ knowledge,but also to cultivate students’ thinking ability.Reading teaching is an important part of English teaching,which focuses on cultivating students’ ability of text comprehension and mastering English knowledge.English reading classes can be a platform to cultivate students’ critical thinking when learning English.Therefore,it’s necessary for us to do the research on the cultivating students’ critical thinking in English reading classes in junior high schools.Some research methods are used in this study,including literature research methods,questionnaire survey and interview.Through previous questionnaire survey,test,interview and students’ data differences in CTDI-CV critical thinking ability scale survey,the author analyzes the present situation of critical thinking training in English reading classes.It’s found that in English reading classes,teachers don’t pay much attention to cultivating and training students’ critical thinking.Therefore,in this experiment,the author selects two parallel classes in Grade Eight,including106 students.Class 7 is the control class and Class 8 is the experimental class.In the control class,the author adopts the conventional teaching mode of English reading,while in the experimental class,the author adjusts the teaching design of the reading classes to reflect the training of students’ critical thinking skills such as prediction,questioning,analysis,inference,generalization and evaluation.The author spends a semester carrying on the experiment and analyzes before and after the experiment.The results show that the conscious critical English reading teaching has a positive influence on the development of critical thinking.In English reading classes,teachers can integrate the cultivation of critical thinking into teaching,such as changing students’ way of thinking,using mind map skillfully and asking appropriate questions.Based on the research results,the author suggests that the cultivation of students’ critical ability through reading teaching needs to strengthen students’ training goals,pay attention to the evaluation of the learning process,and pay attention to the development of students’ thinking ability. |
