| Charles Tomlinson Griffes(1884-1920)is one of the representatives of impressionist style music.Three Tone-Pictures is Griffes’ s transition from German Romanticism to Impressionism and also his first piano pieces officially published.,including The Lake at Evening,The Vale of Dreams,and The Night Winds.This work perfectly presents the hazy,dreamy,and ethereal characteristics of impressionist style music,and is an outstanding representative of American impressionist music creation.This paper analyzes the musical characteristics and performance of Griffes’ s Three Tone-Pictures through an elaboration of the work title,quoted poems,rhythm and melody,musical form,etc.,so as to grasp the artistic style of the American composer Griffes;besides a perspective for further analysis based on my own playing is proposed,providing references for subsequent performances of this piece,calling attention to the American composers,especially Griffes,as well as broadening artistic horizon of domestic researchers. |
