Between The KMT And The Chinese Communist Party

As one of the important parties founded in the 1920 s,The Chinese Youth Party(CYP)played an important role in the history of modern political parties in China.On December 2,1923,the CYP was founded in Paris,France.In 1924,its main leaders,such as Zeng Qi and Li Huang,returned to China for development.Later,the Central Party Department of the CYP also moved to China for activities.Until 1949,it retreated to Taiwan with the Kuomintang(KMT)and spent more than 20 years in the mainland for activities.This paper mainly studies the process of the political choice made by the CYP from 1944 to 1949,as well as the causes of this choice.As for the history of the CYP before the choice,it has a great relationship with the CDL,so the first two chapters of this paper mainly discuss the entanglements between the CYP and the CDL.Only by exploring this context can we better understand the "Antecedents" of the political choice between the KMT and the CPC made by the CYP.The first chapter mainly explores the history of before the CYP and after joining the CDL.Before joining the CDL,the CYP had a complicated relationship with the KMT and the CPC.Before the total war of resistance,the CYP had been increasingly hostile to the CPC,Later,with the deepening of the national crisis and the influence of the United Front policy of the CPC,the relationship between the CYP and the CPC eased somewhat.But with the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan,the anti-communist nature of the CYP once again fully demonstrated.For the KMT,the CYP "advised" the KMT to give up the policy of "uniting with Russia and embracing the CPC" in the early stage,and opposed the one-party dictatorship in the late stage.It is worth noting that although the CYP is anti-communist in nature,it is also distanced from KMT policies.For its part,the CYP has its own constitutional ideals that it wants to achieve.Later,the all-out war of resistance against Japanese aggression broke out.Under the common goal of constitutionalism,the intermediate parties strengthened their ties and finally formed the CDL.Since the research subject of this paper is the CYP,which is one of the "three parties and three factions" of the CDL,Therefore,it is necessary to explore the reasons why the CYP joined the CDL,which also lays a foundation for the analysis of the alienation between the CYP and the CDL in the following paper.The second chapter mainly studies the process of the alienation between the CYP and the CDL.After the reorganization of the CDL in 1944,there was a precursor of alienation between the CYP and the CDL.After that,for the first time in the four sessions of the Political Consultative Conference,the CYP and the CDL disagreed with each other.the CYP deviated from the mainstream of the CDL by participating in the Conference,which resulted in a political alienation from the CDL.In other words,the CYP may hold roughly the same views as the democratic league,but when there is a disagreement between the mainstream of the democratic league and the KMT,the CYP still chooses to "support" the KMT.After the convening of the CDL,the dominant position of the CYP in the League has been seriously weakened.In the end,before the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference(CPPCC)was held,the CYP insisted on participating as an independent unit and competed with the CDL for the quota,which caused dissatisfaction within the CDL.Although the CYP has yet to formally withdraw from the CDL,the relationship between the two is dead in name only.It is worth noting that in the process of the alienation between the CYP and the CDL,the CDL mostly moved closer to the CPC,while the CYP moved closer to the KMT.The contents of various proposals put forward by the CYP at the CPPCC meeting after it was separated from the CDL,including five aspects,such as government reorganization,common program,nationalization of the military,national assembly and draft constitution,to explore the political attitude of the CYP at that time.It can be seen that although the CYP actively puts forward its own political demands in various proposals and maintains its independence to a certain extent,but it has always adhered to the party’s established policy of "taking the initiative and gradually cooperating with the KMT ".The political activities of the CYP constitutional national assembly,the contradiction between the KMT and the CPC has been unable to mediate,The third party also had to take sides,and the fact that the CYP finally chose to participate in the national assembly of the constitution held by the KMT,which also represented that the CYP chose to stand on the side of the KMT.However,the factors leading to this choice are not single,so the author also tries to analyze and research from two aspects: the environment at that time and the historical roots.After choosing the KMT,the CYP consistently participated in the government reorganization organized by the KMT and the national assembly of the constitution held by the KMT,and fought for power with the KMT,but it also fell into the whirlwind of power struggle,unable to extrication itself.
