A Report On The Translation Of Parts Of X Tractor Operating Manual

Driven by the current economic globalization and the background of One Belt and One Road initiative,China’s self-developed tractors need to occupy a place in the international market.And the tractor of this brand is not only an important part of enriching the domestic market but also a fist product to enter the new tractor markets in foreign countries.Therefore the demand for the translations of mechanical text of the tractor operating manual will increase in the future target market.Since the China’s tractor has newly entered the international market,the number of the translations of the tractor operating manual is rare and the parallel texts of it for translators to refer to are also not enough.However,the demands in the future for translations of the tractor operating manual will be more and more selective as the market shares of domestic tractor industry are becoming higher.Enterprises being able to offer clear and accurate Chinese-English translations of tractor operating manual is a necessary requirement for foreign users as well as an important means to build the overseas brand image for the enterprises themselves.The translation practical report can be roughly divided into five chapters.The first chapter is task description,which contains introduction of the project,the significance of the project,requirement of the project and structure of the report.These four sections mainly introduce the market background of the project,the main contents of X Tractor Operating Manual,the practical meaning of translating the project,the project requirement to the translation,users and translator as well as the structure of the report.The second chapter introduces the translator’s translation process.The second chapter can be divided into three parts,namely,pre-translation work,the description of the translator’s specific ideas in the translation process and translator’s post-translation work.In addition,the pre-translation work consists of the selection of the translation tool for this project and the text characteristic analysis of the operating manual.And the description of the translator’s specific ideas in the translation process can be divided into three steps which respectively are understanding,analysis and expression.The introduction of this part is to let the company and readers clearly understand the translator’s thinking process that is from the outside to the inside and to the outside again during the translation.The translator’s post-translation work is mainly to proofread the translation to further secure the quality of the translation.The main contents of the third chapter is introducing the translation theory chosen by the translator for translating the project.This chapter begins with an overview of the background,origins and the central ideas of the skopos theory.This chapter also detailedly introduce the three principles of skopos theory with the combination of the example sentences in the operating manual.The fourth chapter mainly introduces six translation strategies adopted by translator during translation under the guidance of skopos theory.Not only does the translator introduce the application of the six translation strategies but also explain the practical meaning of each translation strategy under the guidance of skopos theory.The fifth chapter is conclusion,which includes some new and deeper understandings to the application of skopos theory and the characteristics of mechanical text after the translator has finished the translation of X Tractor Operating Manual.In this chapter,the translator also introduces the shortcomings in translation and the reflections.The translator also gives the corresponding solutions that should be adopted in similar translation of mechanical text.In this thesis,the author will use the skopos theory as the main guiding theory,combining various translating strategies and further proving the practical significance of the skopos theory to the mechanical text translations through the illustrative sentences quoted from the translation practice.At the same time,the translator hope that the translation of this project will provide some reference for the translation of mechanical text.
