Research On Baudrillard’s Thoughts Of Media Criticism

The world has now entered the 5G era,in which the upgrading of media technology and mobile devices give people more autonomy and discourse power online.However,the inappropriate use of media technology has also made them lose the abilities to think deeply and criticize objectively.Baudrillard’s critique of media technology provides a fresh and unique perspective for the study of media thoughts,as well as serves as a warning for the contemporary media development.By way of historical analysis,comparative research and systematic analysis,this paper examines the background and sources of Baudrillard’s media criticism,as well as its connotations,academic debates,evaluation and inspiration.Presented in the context of the consumer society,his critical thinking develops and inherits Mc Luhan’s theory of the media and more importantly,puts forward his own criticism on media technology.Baudrillard’s media criticism is analyzed in the paper,so as to explore how the media controls our society,i.e.the mass media has become a tool for codes,by which people are easily dominated and manipulated.Being rich in connotations and distinctive in contemporary values,his thoughts have led people to re-examine their relationship with media technology.However,there still exist certain controversies,as his theory is too radical and one-sided,exaggerating the meaning of symbols,ignoring the human subjectivity,and falling into techno-pessimism.Combining with the real situation,the paper objectively discusses both the rationality and limitations of his ideas,and provides possible guidance for the healthy development of the contemporary media environment.
