| The documents released by international organizations are influential texts that target to reveal specific phenomena which are widely spread in the world and to appeal for public actions in various nations.Those documents are normally formal and even rigorous so both the vocabularies and sentences patterns in such text should be translated via flexible translation approaches to ensure the equivalence in meaning and intelligibility of the translation.The Skopos Theory is one of the influential translation theories,providing crucial principles for translating the texts which appeal for readers ’ actions.The three rules of Skopos Theory,including skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,provide crucial framework for diversified translation practices.Since this theory provides important enlightenment for the translator to achieve the translation goal,it is chosen as the theoretical framework of this translation practice.In this report,in accordance with the Skopos Theory,the first and second chapter of The United Nations World Water Development Report 2020 will be analyzed in details.The source text is one of the most influential international organization documents which provide important appeals for all the nations in the world and stipulate the responsibilities that should be taken by all humanity to save the water resources and to provide mutual help for the people who are suffering from water shortage.The source text is characterized by the frequent use of technical terms,formal expressions and the complex sentence patterns.Therefore,the translation of this text will help readers with the improvement of translation proficiency,especially the ability to cope with international organization documents.And the translation of the original text will be analyzed from three aspects,including the methods to observe skopos rule,the approaches to follow the coherence rule and the methods which are consistent with the fidelity rule.This translation practice enables the translator to obtain important lessons about translation,including the importance of full consideration of translation purposes in the whole translation process,the necessity to converse some obscure expressions and sentence structures and the significance of staying loyal to the original text. |
