This translation report takes The United Nations World Water Development Report 2022,a scientific and technological text published by UNESCO on behalf of the UN-Water in March 2022,as the source text for the English-to-Chinese translation practice. The water report has the theme of “groundwater: making the invisible visible”,and reflects common global water issues and leads global water development concept. The Translator completes this translation task with the assistance of computer-aided translation(CAT)tools such as memo Q,Deep L,Xbench, etc. This translation report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is an overview, including task description, text analysis, intended target readers, translation requirements and so on.Chapter2 describes the translation process, mainly describing preparations before translation, machine translation post-editing(MTPE),translation export, and quality assurance throughout the whole process.Chapter 3 is about case analysis and is also the main part of this translation report. The Translator first discusses techniques for translating participle structures that function as a postpositive attribute or an adverbial.A participle structure may be translated as a prepositive attribute when it functions as a postpositive attribute.Based on the specific examples,a participle structure may be translated as a “V + O + 的(de)” structure or a “prep.+ N + V + 的(de)” structure according to the semantic structure relationship.A participle structure that functions as an adverbial may be translated as a predicate structure in a clause of a complex sentence, and the predicate structure could be diverse. The Translator also discusses the effect of the prepositional structure with “对”(dui)by contrasting the Deep L translation with the final proofread version.Chapter 4 concludes this translation report. This translation report may have some reference for the teaching and practice of EST translation.Meanwhile, this translation report adopts a qualitative analysis method to exclusively summarize the translation task, and therefore has some limitations.
