A Report On C-E Translation Of Jangar(Excerpts)

This is a report on the C-E translation practice of Jangar.The study of ethnic minority culture has gradually become an important part of the dissemination of the Chinese national culture.Among them,Jangar,as one of the three heroic epics of the minority in my country,occupies an extremely important position in the study of Mongolian epics.It is also the focus of scholars at home and abroad.Therefore,the study and English translation of Mongolian epics have important significance and value for the output of Chinese culture and the promotion of traditional national culture.This translation practice selects Chapter ten “Jangar rescues Honggur and suppresses Hari Tubetuuh Khan” and the first part of Chapter eleven “Honggur’s Suppression of Burguud” in the Chinese version of Jangar by Holcha to serve as the translation practice text.This translation practice is a process of Chinese-English translation,the source text contains 11394 Chinese characters.The author translates it into English and contributed his efforts to the study of Mongolian epic translation.In the translation practice,the author analyzes the problems encountered in the translation process through a large number of Example studies.The author puts forward corresponding solutions under the guidance of Skopos theory and cultural translation theory.At the lexical level,the translation of Names of people and places,and culture-loaded words in the source text was discussed.Among them,for the translation of Names of people and places,the author adopts transliteration method of Mongolian language to translate Names of people and places.At the rhetorical level,the translation methods of rhetoric including Hyperbole,Antithetical sentences and parallel structures are discussed mainly through Example analysis.The translation methods at rhetorical level mainly include literal translation,free translation,amplification,etc.In this translation practice,the author summarizes the methods and strategies of the English translation of Jangar,hoping to sum up experience for my future Mongolian epic translation practice,and make contribution to the study of Mongolian epic translation.Meanwhile,to provide reference for the dissemination of other ethnic minority epics.
