With the comprehensive reform and improvement of compulsory education,people pay close attention to the fair development of education,and keep a watchful eye on equal opportunities of education for all students.This means that teachers should pay attention to the development of each student,especially those who temporarily fall behind in learning.Benjamin Bloom,a famous psychologist,once pointed out that students were the objects of education.And he also held the view that there were no differences between dissimilar students’ academic and intellectual merits.But their learning speed and ability of understanding and mastering learning material were distinct.Therefore,as long as teachers give students with learning difficulties enough warm care and patient guidance,those students have the possibility of successful transformation.On the basis of the summary of former studies,this study defines the concept of students with English learning difficulties,and finally picks out 121 students with English learning difficulties as the research objects.Under the guidance of humanistic theory,meta-cognitive theory and attribution theory,this study conducts a three-month investigation through the methods of questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview.The purpose of this study is to understand the performance of junior high school students with English learning difficulties,find out the influencing factors of their learning difficulties,and put forward the transformation strategies,which has an important and practical influence on promoting the learning ability of students with English learning difficulties and improving the effect of English teaching.This study applies qualitative research and quantitative research,trying to combine questionnaire survey data,classroom observation data and interview data within a theoretical framework to study the following questions: first,what are the performances of junior high school students with learning difficulties in English? The sub-question is: what difficulties do junior high school students with English learning difficulties have in terms of language skills,language knowledge,emotional attitudes,and learning strategies? Secondly,what are the factors that cause English learning difficulties of junior high school students? The sub-question is: what are the internal and external factors that cause English learning difficulties of junior high school students?Finally,what are the strategies for transforming junior high school students with English learning difficulties?Through a three-month survey,this study finds that: first,the average comprehensive language ability of junior middle school students with English learning difficulties in Shihezi is2.993.Among them,the average value of language skills and language knowledge is the highest,and they are 3.253 and 3.084 respectively;the average value of learning strategy is lower(2.859);and the average value of emotional attitude is the lowest(2.739).Secondly,there are individual differences in different dimensions.Secondly,the internal factors of learning difficulties mainly involves the efficiency of attending lectures,learning quality and learning strategies.The external factors include family,school,teaching materials,teachers and so on.But the internal factors have the decisive effect.Finally,the transformation work of students with English learning difficulties requires the joint efforts of the school,teachers and parents.To begin with,schools should improve the evaluation mechanism of students with learning difficulties,treat students with learning difficulties from the perspective of development,and stimulate their potential.Besides,teachers should develop students’ non-intellectual factors,including stimulating students’ interest in learning,cultivating students’ self-confidence,helping students make feasible learning plans,and strengthening the training of learning strategies and positive attribution.In addition,teachers should also reinforce a good relationship with students.Lastly,parents should improve the interaction and cooperation with school,attach great importance to their exemplary role of their behavior,and construct a harmonious and good family environment.
