| This is a translation project report. It is an adaptation from J.Neil C.Garcia’s“Translation and the Problem of Realism in Philippine Literature in English”.This paper introduces J.Neil C.Garcia’s understanding of realism and his literary criticism of realism in Philippine English literature. The thesis contains a large number of proper nouns,a large part of rigorous criticism. Therefore,it is difficult to translate English to Chinese in the translation process. This translation report mainly includes five parts: the first part introduces the translation project;the second part talks about the process of translation;the third part is the introduction of translation theory. The fourth part is a case study, which specifically analyzes the difficulties encountered in the process of translation and how to use translation theory and translation skills to solve the problems;the fifth part is a summary, which summarizes the gains and shortcomings in this translation, and puts forward some suggestions for translating similar texts in the future. In the completion of the translation report, the translator used Nida’s functional equivalence theory as a basis and specific examples to convey the original author’s thoughts using a variety of translation strategies, and specifically demonstrated the importance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory to translation. The translator draws the following conclusions: 1)The translator should pay attention to the historical background of terms and translate the terms in the cultural context;2)When translating polysemous words, translators need to choose the most appropriate corresponding words according to the specific context;3)When translating poems, narrative novels, etc.,the translator should pay attention to the stylistic features of this part, choose the most appropriate translation according to the context, and also pay attention to the expression. |
