The purpose of deep learning is to help learners grasp and construct knowledge from a deep level and it requires learners to conduct profound self-evaluation and reflection,to form the habit of deep thinking,and to achieve the ultimate goal of deep understanding of knowledge.From the point of view of the process of deep learning,the strategies of deep learning are perfectly in line with our nation’s educational goals to cultivate “all-round developed people”,to cultivate students’ ability of independent development,diligent reflection,problem solving and so on,and to construct students’ core accomplishment system.Under the guidance of deep learning theory,this study takes English reading teaching in senior high school as the research object and two questions are mainly explored:(1)How is the students’ pre-experiment deep learning level in senior English reading curriculum?(2)Can deep learning strategies improve learners’ reading performance in English reading in senior high school?In order to find the answers to these two questions above,the author refers to the relevant research literature both at home and abroad,adopts such research methods as testing,questionnaire survey and interview.And two classes of senior one in FS school in Nanchang,Jiangxi are selected to carry out the 16-week-long experimental study of deep learning.One of these two classes is experimental class,and the other is controlled class.Deep learning strategies are adopted in the experimental class while traditional teaching strategies are employed in the controlled class.In practical teaching in the experimental class,the teacher first popularizes the relevant knowledge of deep learning strategies for students,and then designs and implements teaching activities from three angles on the ground of the 7 steps in deep learning cycle:(1)preparations before classroom teaching——to make preparations based on teaching materials and learners,aiming to select teaching content and design classroom activities;(2)knowledge processing in classroom teaching——to apply group cooperative learning approach and design differentiated processing tasks for different learners to adopt different processing skills,like awareness,analysis and synthesis,application,assimilation,in different situations;(3)self-assessment and self-reflection——to evaluate learners’ learning initiative,communicative and collaborative skills,and the level of knowledge processing by assessment from members in the own group and/or other groups.At the end of the experiment,all the various pr-experimental and post-experimental data go through analysis with the help of SPSS 22.0,and it is found that the learners’ deep learning is at low level and compared with traditional teaching strategies,deep learning strategies can improve learners’ English reading level more effectively from the perspectives of reading habit,independent learning capacity,communication and collaboration ability and self-assessment and reflection.Doubtlessly,this has certain reference significance for improving English reading teaching in senior high school.
