| China has become the largest destination country in Asia since 2019.Many foreign students are hoping to come to China to learn Chinese,which can help them to achieve the best condition of second language learning,second language acquisition.However,many teachers find in the actual teaching that not all foreign students can achieve the optimal state of language acquisition in the target language environment.Although some foreign students are immersed in the second language learning environment all the time,they do not actively and consciously use Chinese,resulting in their target language exposure is still very little.Therefore,it can be seen that language environment does not automatically facilitate language acquisition.The key to language acquisition lies in learners’ conscious use of language.The frequency of language acts is the bridge between language environment and second language acquisition.Studies on learners’ self-awareness in recent decades have found that the willingness to communicate of learners has a direct influence on learners’ communicative behavior.Learners with high willingness to communicaye will take the initiative to make full use of the resources around them to carry out language practice and extend language learning from classroom to extracurricular.Therefore,the study of second language communicative intention can not only make us understand the learners’ communicative performance in the process of second language learning,but also help us take positive measures according to various factors affecting the second language communicative intention to enhance the learners’ second language communicative intention,improve the frequency and quality of second language communication,so as to achieve the goal of improving the level of second language.Based on Gardner’s social education model of second language learning,Mac Intyre’s pyramid model of bilingual WTC and Wen and Clément’s model of bilingual WTC in Chinese environment,this paper makes a quantitative research and qualitative exploration on the Chinese bilingual WTC of foreign students in Chongqing Jiaotong University,which has good theoretical value and practical significance.Specifically speaking,this paper mainly studies the ideas of raising questions--forming hypotheses--testing and verifying--drawing conclusions--practical application.Firstly,raising questions.In view of the current teaching situation although some foreign students are immersed in the second language learning environment all the time,they do not actively and consciously use Chinese,which leads to their little contact with the target language.Ask three questions.Secondly,forming hypotheses.On the basis of expounding the research background,significance,object,content and method,this paper combs the theory of WTC.According to the above theory,the hypothesis is formed that objective factors(gender,age,etc.)and emotional factors(Chinese learning motivation,attitude,etc.)will have an impact on students’ willingness to communicate in and out of class.Thirdly,testing and verifying.Through quantitative research and qualitative exploration,data were collected by questionnaire survey and semi-structured interview,and the data were analyzed and processed by SPSS22.0,to explore the influencing factors and the degree of influence of students’ willingness to communicate.Fourthly,drawing conclusions.Based on the analysis of the questionnaire data and the interview results,it is concluded that the overall willingness to communicate of international students in Chongqing Jiaotong University is good,which is between general and willing.It is also found that major,country,Chinese proficiency,second language proficiency self-evaluation,self perceived communicative competence,communication anxiety,attitude,learning motivation,teacher’s personality image,external stimulation and feedback,other students’ language proficiency,students’ interest and dialect pronunciation and other factors will affect foreign students’ Chinese communicative intention.Finally,practical application.Based on the conclusion,this paper provides suggestions and references for Chinese teaching of international students in China from two aspects of classroom teaching and extracurricular extension. |
