A Practice Report On The English Translation Of "Opportunities And Challenges For Metal Matrix Composites In The Context Of Equipment Upgrading"

Metal matrix composites which has been monopolized by western developed countries for a long time started late in China.Since the 21 th century,the field of metal matrix composites in China has entered a rapid development stage,making key technological breakthroughs in several main preparation methods.It is of great significance to the English translation of metal matrix composites to promote the technical exchange in the field of metal matrix composites and make more people know more about China’s metal matrix composites achievements.The source text of this report is selected from Strategic Study of CAE,named“Opportunities and Challenges for Metal Matrix Composites in the Context of Equipment Upgrading”.Observed from the lexical sense,the text focuses on plenty of professional terms,vocabulary repetition phenomenon and the figure of speech which is pretty unusual in scientific and technical text.In the perspective of sentence structures,the sentences lack morphological changes,and there are also many sentences without clear subjects as well as necessary cohesion,leading to obvious convert coherence phenomenon.On the basis of the analysis of the source text,the translator strains after the accurate version and conforms to the features of the scientific and technical text during the translation,finally realizing the translation purpose.Guided by Nord’s text analysis model,in this report,the translator expounds the source text from extratextual factors and intratextual factors.In combination with specific cases from the lexical and syntactic structure level,the paper analyzes the influence of the factors in the source text on translator and flexibly chooses the translation method such as literal translation and free translation to achieve the realization of text function.
