| The source text of this translation project is chosen from the book Artificial Intelligence for Fashion: How AI is Revolutionizing the Fashion Industry,which was written by Leanne Luce.The starting point of this book is to introduce the basic concepts of artificial intelligence(e.g.,computer vision,data mining,and generative adversarial networks),laying a good foundation for further understanding of its applications in the fashion industry.The selected chapters(Chapters 6,7,8,and 9)explore how artificial intelligence is applied to product sales and design by fashion companies,which is of great significance to enhance the various applications of artificial intelligence technology in every segment of the fashion value chain in China.With Vermeer’s Skopos theory as the theoretical guidance,the translation aims to convey the meaning of the source text in an accurate way and ensure the coherence and faithfulness of the target text.Through case study,this report summarizes the strategies and approaches involved during translation at the lexical,syntactical,and textual levels.At the lexical level,proper nouns and terms are supposed to be translated through literal translation,transliteration,and diction.At the syntactical level,in light of the inherent difference between Chinese and English,the source text features a large number of passive sentences,as well as long and complex sentences with English structures,so the change of voice,adjustment of order,and division are adopted to translate more in line with the reading habits of target readers.At the textual level,based on different logical connections and language features,the logic is improved by restructuring the sentence,and the style of the target text is maintained by repetition and annotation of words.As case study demonstrates,the translation strategies and approaches under the Skopos theory prove to be effective in the translation of informational texts. |
